Coursework: Preliminary exercise feedback and LR

 1) Type up your teacher's feedback in full plus a summary of the comments you received from other students in the class.

  • As a narrative opening I think this works. However, the confrontation is unconvincing and would need re-shooting.
  • Consider the colour grading/post-production – it feels a bit light and domestic, not really gritty or dangerous?
  • Having said that, there is some good tension created in the first 20 seconds. It’s just the two characters together that doesn’t quite work.
  • The brief is music video so you will need another scene / location / performance element for the full video.
  • Needed footwear element and brand identity of your artist in there – both are part of the brief. Or was the close up of the shoes being put on covering that? Brand didn’t seem clear unless I missed it.

students:
majority of leaner responses were:
www:
-Good showcase of shoe sponsorship.
-Variety of camera shots used.
EBI:
- Some shots were a bit too quiet(should've added background music or sounds)

2) Using a combination of your own reflection on the preliminary exercise and the feedback you were given, write three WWW bullet points and three EBI bullet points for your work.
WWW:
-Good showcasing of sponsorship products. Nike shoes, Nike jumper and Nike cargos.
EBI:
-acting should have been a bit more realistic

3) How effectively did you complete the objective you laid out in your mini preliminary exercise statement of intent?
I did not follow the statement of intent closely as I did a more narrative approach. However this music video will still include some performance based acting.

4) What have you learned from the preliminary exercise that will help you in the actual coursework project?

I have learned that to act out what ideas you have may take a long time. This means that for my actual coursework I have to leave out plenty of time for mistakes.

5) Now you have completed the preliminary exercise, will you change anything about your actual coursework video plan? This could include your concept, cast/actors or technical elements such as mise-en-scene, camerawork or editing.

Yes before I had completed the preliminary task I had thought that 3 minutes of narrative would have not been boring to the consumers. However now i have realised that 3 minutes of performance based music videos would be unsuitable for me, therefore I have added a bit of a narrative into my music video as well.

I also had realised that having props may look better in your head but when a actor is trying to act with a prop and perform it can be seen as quite difficult and may be numerous tries and take till the producer feels comfortable with the shot.
