‘Video rough cut learner response

 Estimated current grade: E

Comments & feedback:

  • Does this track meet the mainstream element of the brief? You may need to justify it with UK streaming figures / UK concert venues etc. in your Statement of Intent.
  • You’ve got some text on screen / artist name at the beginning but there’s no real brand identity for your artist. This is an area you could look at developing.
  • Overall, this is effectively a performance video – I’m not sure how the narrative element at the beginning fits in? There doesn’t appear to be a story being told.
  • I’m not an expert but the performance doesn’t seem to be lip-synced to the song which is going to hold this back significantly. With no narrative and without a lip-synced performance it’s difficult to see where we can give marks.
  • This is why rough cuts are so important – you’ve refreshed your filming and editing skills but now need to think about what you can add to move it up to the higher levels. Narrative? Locations? Effects? This will be crucial for your final cut. You may want to consider this as an extended preliminary exercise and re-shoot the video for the final submission.

To summarise:
I need to change and add effects in the music video.
I need to add a sense of professionalism by developing the text on screen by changing to different style fonts, pictures and style.
I also need to add a bit of narrative as performance based would not interest the consumers for 3 minutes.

Three improvements I could make is:
-To include a narrative
- To better performance based by lip-syncing and acting.
- To include effects within certain parts of the music video.
