MOVIE SCENE: DUNKIRK

(0:00-51:00)

In this suspense and action filled movie, Dunkirk , we can expect conflict and numerous dilemmas. The particular reason for this is because in the beginning of this trailer it opens up with a smoky  background. The use of the opaque  smoke in the  background already creates a gloomy atmosphere which for the audience builds questions and starts to build a narrative that will mean this movie is about action and conflict. The next scene is soldiers walking in a long and empty street possibly insinuating that the soldiers are by themselves. Furthermore seeing nobody such as civilians in the area suggest that the soldiers may be by themselves. As an audience member this would create distress as it creates a perception that you don't what could happen in the street. Maybe all the civilians are not there as there will be a fight or maybe they already experienced conflict. As the soldiers are wandering the street, there are papers which fall from the sky that communicate to them that they are surrounded. The papers fell down in mass and there were not many soldiers on that road maybe meaning that all of the papers that are on the ground and not in the soldiers hand are for all of the fallen soldiers that may have died in some sort of conflict. Furthermore on the paper the area surrounding them is red and the area which they are in are white, possibly meaning that the part which the enemies are taken over are red which connotates with blood. This may be blood from their brothers that have died. This starts the trailer with already putting in the audiences mind that they are in war and they are losing the war. Interesting the reader as they would want to see if maybe the country that is controlling the war changes. This then switches to a from where there are two cars, one which holds 2 people and tools and one which holds several combatants for fighting as empty. Further showing how many people have died. This all creates a subjective point of view for the audience as they feel sympathy with the fallen soldiers. The reason for this is because next to the cars you can see dead bodies and doors that have been left open possibly meaning that they got out with the intention of being in a hurry and maybe using the door for cover. In the background of all of this you can hear a clock noise which happens every two seconds, even though it should happen every one second. In my opinion, the particular reason for this circumstance is because  it creates a perception that the seconds in war are no longer as fast as seconds, meaning that time in war is dragging, suggesting that they don't want to be at war. The next frame changes to soldiers stood in a line. The soldiers in the line were not speaking to one another and each one of them had a blank look on their face. This could be done to show how much trauma the all independently have experienced. The fact that they are all in a line shows maybe their exhaustion from fighting as they don't even want to rush to get out as they may physically can not. In the next part, There is some dialogue about how enemies have stopped deploying tanks and have started deploying bomb on the beach. Whats useful about this is that it again proves that they are not in control of this war and the opponents of the war are dropping bombs on the beach wiping out many soldiers as they all there trying to escape the conflict. Then it pans to what seems like the main character walking on the beach and an over the shoulder shot to represent how many soldiers could die just by one bomb and they have hardly zero cover to protect themselves with. Again reassuring the audience that they are not on the winning side of the war, intriguing them and wanting them to be hooked from the start.Suddenly it then pans to a pilot of a fighter jet closing the cabin. Making the reader interpret this to action and conflict then transitioning to a tiny boat getting shot up from the sky. Also this then pans to the beach where once stood many soldiers but because of the bombings we as audiences interpret that most of them are either dead or trying to lie down on the beach to avoid mass impact. We then see a soldier take off his hard hat, which is a sign of retirement or giving up, and walk into the sea. As a viewer you could see that this person had no intention of coming back. Then it pans our main characters and shows how desensitised  they are to a person committing suicide. Instead of the person being happy he survived all those attacks he faces trauma which he could just not live with.
