Mise-en-scene blog tasks
1) Find a distinctive still image and write an analysis of the mise-en-scene. Use each of the aspects you've learned in the lesson.
Costume
Analysis of still image:
Costume:They are both wearing similar types of costume. Jackie Chan is wearing a white shirt and the youngster( Jayden smith) is wearing a vest.Perhaps the director is trying to insinuate how the older person's time has passed and now its his turn to teach his teachings o somebody else.
Lighting: Even though it is raining, the lighting has an effect as being represented as the sun, which can be portrayed as an oxymoron. This is because the connotations of rain are moody and slumpy, however the connotations of sun are happy. This may be done to show how dedicated they both are and how even though they don't match whether that be skin colour or personality they are a team.
Actor: Jackie chan the older character is holding the umbrella to perhaps portray the fact that he is superior and he is seen as his guardian.
Make-up:in this picture you cant see the makeup.
Props: A jacket, an umbrella. This may be done to show how simply one person can master karate.
Setting:This photo takes scene in a mechanics back garden again to maybe emphaise how karate can be done anywhere.
2) Find TWO film or TV extracts on YouTube from different genres (e.g. horror, sci-fi, costume drama). Embed them in your blogpost and write a comparison of the mise-en-scene in each.

Costume: The actor is wearing black jeans with a white top. The contrast of the black and white has the connotations of good and bad.The fact that the advert is in black and white and you clearly see where is wearing black and white suggests that something good might happen with bad.
Lighting: There is front light. This may be done to show his facial reactions and to show how quite scared he is. Even though the advert is black and white. The advert is very well lit up.
Actor: The actor is not looking into the camera to maybe show that he is looking at something else. Furthermore, the actor is squeezing the arms of the chair. This may be done to show how scared he is to not be running away.
Make-up: In this advert of the movie you cannot see the make-up
Props: There is a chair. The chair maybe considered to be an oxymoron because if he is so frightened but yet he is sitting down.
Setting: This photo is taken place in the middle of a white and black background.
Costume: The actor Mark Walberg is wearing an army costume. This hints to the audience that this movie would contain action. Soldiers wear green so they can be disguised into the grass or nearby surroundings. This may be done to show that the character is going to go into battle.
Lighting: In this image there is front light. Front light is used to show the importance of something as it kind of darkens the background and focuses on one thing. Also in this image there is ground light facing the sky. This is done to emphasise peoples facial reactions.
Actor: The facial reaction of the character is a sort of stern look with some sort of anger and resilience. The character is placed in the centre of poster. This may be done to show that the character is the centre of attention.
Makeup: In this advert , you cannot see the character wearing make-up
Props: There is a gun in this advert. The use of a gun could suggest that there is going to be a conflict in the future. Given that the gun has a silencer, the character and his team could be attacking in silent. Furthermore this idea is further reprimanded by adding a bulletproof vest to the character. If there was character without a gun or a bulletproof vest the movie may symbolise peace. However this movie does not.
Setting: This photo is taken in front of a USA flag. USA citizens are quite narcissistic and are willing to die for their country. Therefore placing him in front of a USA flag may suggest how willing the character is. In the background you can see the outskirts of an abandoned village or town.
